One of the most "obscure" issues of caring for Irish Terrier puppies is ear training. This is done to ensure the right ear position. Adult Irish Terriers have their ears folded forward. As puppies, they can have any ear position. Therefore, it is the owner's task to help the ears take the right position.
Ear training starts at the age of eight weeks. It is good if ear training is done before the dog is sixteen weeks old. Gluing is not very difficult, yet should be done carefully. The wrong ear positioning can spoil the whole of the dog's appearance. Some puppies may carry the ears without gluing. With time, however, the process stops due to the teeth formation. Calcium starts to be used for teeth and the puppy's ears may go loose. Therefore, ear training is strongly recommended.
Irish Terriers - Coat Care
The Irish Terrier is a double-coated dog. The coat is not difficult to groom. It is sufficient to brush the dog once or twice a week. The Irish Terrier rarely sheds. Overall, coat care for the Irish Terrier is easy.

The Irish Terrier has been bred for hunting. This dog has preserved its working qualities over time. Though it makes a wonderful companion, the Irish Terrier is good for agility, tracking, retrieving, and other work. It is recommended to start training early.
